Granatum fructus (Pomegranate) Dynamis UK 2006

I am used to teaching classes with a majority of female students. This is the norm today, probably because homoeopathy is relatively Yin compared to other medical modalities. But Dynamis 2006 was the first and only class I have taught in which all the students were women. It was a bit scary, and the energy felt different: gentle, warm and nice but somewhat stagnant. Sometimes I longed for one male student to spark a dynamic balance. I think the women did too. I decided to choose a proving to match this energy and searched for a substance with a very feminine nature. I had been on a quest to prove the seven holy species of the bible: olive, wheat, barley, grape, fig, date and pomegranate. As I had already proved the first two, pomegranate was the natural choice for the class. It symbolises femininity, fertility, beauty, regeneration, marriage, birth and death. The legend also puts it as the fruit of the tree of knowledge that Eve and Adam ate in the Garden of Eden. Crowns are modelled on the calyx (the pointy bit at the top) of the fruit. All of these concepts are well represented in the proving: the Garden of Eden, stages of life from birth through fertility to death, seduction and sensuality, keeping up appearances, cosmetics, ego and royalty. Most female hormonal disorders are part of the picture. More than any, Granatum is perhaps the number one remedy for the hot flushes of menopause. Pomegranate has a very rich mythology which you can read about in our substance report. It is also a well-researched super food. Recent studies have shown it to have a remarkable effect on promoting cardiac health, reducing cholesterol, artherosclerosis and blood pressure. There are quite a few provings of Pomegranate. Most are made of the bark of the root or young branches and these provings are called Granatum or Punica granatum (gran). The Dynamis remedy is made from the whole fruit and needs to be differentiated from these, and so is called Granatum fructose (gran-fr). You will find more information on the various provings in the report below.

Garden Song

The pomegranate speaks:
My leaves are like your teeth
My fruit like your breasts.
I, the most beautiful of fruits,
Am present in all weathers, all seasons

As the lover stays forever with the beloved,
Drunk on ‘shedeh’ and wine.
All the trees lose their leaves, all
Trees but the pomegranate.
I alone in all the garden lose not my beauty,
I remain straight.
When my leaves fall,
New leaves are budding.

First among fruits
I demand that my position be acknowledged,
I will not take second place.
And if I receive such an insult again
You will never hear the end of it….
